1987 Lieyu massacre

7 March 1987 killing at Donggang Bay, Lieyu Island: ROC 158 Heavy Infantry Division soldiers killed 24 Vietnamese refugees, including eight children, five women, and eleven men. The ROC military denied the massacre, calling it accidental manslaughter and the March 7 or Donggang Incident. Despite cover-up attempts, it sparked outrage and partly contributed to ending the 38-year martial law period.
