Albany Movement

Desegregation and voters' rights coalition formed in Albany, Georgia, in November 1961 by local Black leaders and ministers with SNCC and NAACP members, assisted by Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC. It sought to expose brutally enforced segregation in Southwest Georgia but failed to desegregate public spaces; participants counted it a beneficial strategic lesson.
