American spaceflight of 16-24 July 1969 that first landed humans on the Moon, the fifth crewed mission of NASA's Apollo program. Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin launched atop a Saturn V from Kennedy Space Center; Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the surface in the Lunar Module Eagle while Collins stayed in lunar orbit.
