Apollo Program

NASA's human spaceflight program, conceived in 1960 and dedicated to Kennedy's 1961 goal of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely before the decade was out. Apollo 11 met the goal in 1969, with Armstrong and Aldrin walking the lunar surface while Collins remained in lunar orbit; five subsequent missions also landed astronauts on the Moon.
