Bombing of Helsinki in World War II
1939 – 1944
Result Soviet failure to destroy the city
Soviet aircraft bombed Helsinki several times, most heavily in three large raids in February 1944. The attacks aimed to force Finland to make peace but mostly missed their targets, and the city survived largely intact.
