Tambov Rebellion

Peasant uprising in Tambov province (19 August 1920 - mid-1922) led by Alexander Antonov against grain requisitioning. Tukhachevsky, appointed commander in April 1921, crushed the main forces by July 1921 using mass terror, hostage-taking and (ordered, barely used) chemical weapons; mopping-up continued into 1922.
