Yom Kippur War

October 6–25, 1973

6-25 October 1973 war between Israel and an Arab coalition led by Egypt and Syria, opened by a surprise Arab attack on Yom Kippur, fought mainly in the Sinai and Golan Heights. U.S. and Soviet resupply efforts for their allies heightened superpower tensions. It led to the 1978 Camp David Accords, in which Israel returned the Sinai to Egypt in the first Israel-Arab peace treaty.
