Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (born 1964) is a British politician and writer who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party from 2019 to 2022. Biography

Boris Johnson worked as a journalist, including as Brussels correspondent and editor of The Spectator, before entering Parliament in 2001. He was mayor of London from 2008 to 2016, a period that included the 2012 Olympic Games.

He became the leading figure of the campaign to leave the European Union in the 2016 referendum and served as foreign secretary from 2016 to 2018. In 2019 he became Conservative leader and prime minister and won a large majority promising to "get Brexit done"; the UK left the EU in January 2020.

His government handled the COVID-19 pandemic and strongly backed Ukraine after Russia's invasion. Scandals, including lockdown parties in Downing Street, led to mass ministerial resignations, and he resigned in 2022. He left Parliament in 2023.
