Greta Thunberg
Swedish climate activist whose 2018 school strike started the worldwide Fridays for Future movement.
Biography
Greta Thunberg began a solitary school strike outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018 to demand action on climate change. The protest spread into the worldwide Fridays for Future movement of school students.
She spoke at the UN climate conference in Katowice in 2018 and at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York in 2019, travelling across the Atlantic by sailboat to avoid flying. Her speeches accusing world leaders of failing young people drew wide attention.
