Algerian War of Independence
The Algerian War, also known as the Algerian War of Independence or Algerian Revolution, was an armed conflict between France and the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) from 1954 to 1962, which led to Algeria winning its independence from France. Effectively started by FLN members on 1 November 1954 during the Toussaint Rouge, it was a complex war of guerrilla warfare fought mainly in French Algeria, with repercussions in metropolitan France. The conflict caused the fall of France's Fourth Republic and its replacement by the Fifth Republic with a strengthened presidency.
