Babi Yar massacre
Babi Yar (Babyn Yar) is a ravine in Kyiv, Ukraine, and the site of massacres carried out by Nazi Germany's forces during World War II. The first and best documented massacre took place on 29–30 September 1941, when 33,771 Jews were murdered; other victims included Soviet prisoners of war, communists, and Romanies. Carried out by Sonderkommando 4a of Einsatzgruppe C with the aid of the SD, Order Police battalions, and the Ukrainian Auxiliary Police, an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 people were murdered at Babi Yar during the German occupation.
