June 23, 1780 · Springfield

Result American victory

After the 7 June Battle of Connecticut Farms foiled Wilhelm von Knyphausen's attack on Washington's army at Morristown, Knyphausen and British commander-in-chief Sir Henry Clinton launched a second assault at Springfield, New Jersey, on 23 June 1780. The British advanced at first but withdrew before newly arriving rebel forces — a Continental victory that ended British ambitions in New Jersey.
