Civil rights campaign in Chicago, mid-1965 to August 1966, also called the Chicago open housing movement, led by Martin Luther King Jr., James Bevel, and Al Raby. It targeted housing, education, employment, and criminal justice reform; Jesse Jackson's Operation Breadbasket mobilized Black consumer power. The most ambitious Northern civil rights campaign, it inspired the 1968 Fair Housing Act.
