Civil rights campaign in Chicago from mid-1965 to August 1966, also known as the Chicago open housing movement, led by Martin Luther King Jr., James Bevel and Al Raby with the CCCO and SCLC. The movement organized rallies, marches and demands covering housing discrimination, education, employment, income inequality and criminal justice reform; Jesse Jackson's Operation Breadbasket sought to harness Black consumer power. It was the most ambitious civil rights campaign in the Northern United States and is largely credited with inspiring the 1968 Fair Housing Act.
