Held in Washington, D.C., on 28 August 1963, the march brought about 250,000 people to the capital to demand civil and economic rights for African Americans. Organized by Bayard Rustin and A. Philip Randolph, it was the largest political rally of its kind to that point in the United States. Its most famous moment was Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech before the Lincoln Memorial.
