Dissolution of the Russian Constituent Assembly

The Bolshevik-led All-Russian Central Executive Committee (VTsIK) dissolved Russia's first democratically elected parliament after a single 13-hour session (18-19 January 1918) at the Tauride Palace. The Socialist Revolutionaries had won the November 1917 election; Lenin pushed for dissolution and the VTsIK ratified it on 19 January, closing the last legal avenue of opposition.
