Manila massacre
 

During the Battle of Manila (3 February to 3 March 1945), Japanese troops committed mass atrocities against Filipino civilians in the Philippine capital. At least 100,000 civilians were killed in the battle from all causes, including the massacre. Japanese generals Tomoyuki Yamashita and Akira Muto were later tried and executed for the war crimes; Admiral Sanji Iwabuchi, who directed the massacre, died during the battle.
