Mau Mau uprising

Armed revolt in colonial Kenya by the Kenya Land and Freedom Army, mainly Kikuyu, against British rule and white settlers. The British declared an emergency, held tens of thousands in detention camps and crushed the revolt, but it sped up Kenya's independence in 1963.
