Nanjing Massacre
The Nanjing Massacre, also called the Rape of Nanjing, was the mass murder and rape of Chinese civilians and prisoners of war by the Imperial Japanese Army in Nanjing between December 1937 and March 1938. It followed the capture of the city, then China's capital, during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Estimates of the dead range into the hundreds of thousands, and the massacre remains one of the most documented Japanese war crimes of World War II.
