Edward Everett

Edward Everett (1794–1865) was an American politician, Unitarian pastor, educator, diplomat, and orator from Massachusetts. A Whig, he served as U.S. representative, U.S. senator, governor of Massachusetts, minister to Great Britain, and U.S. secretary of state, and was president of Harvard University. He was the featured orator at the 1863 dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery, speaking immediately before Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.
