Elbridge Gerry

Elbridge Gerry (1744–1814) was an American Founding Father, merchant, politician, and diplomat who served as the fifth vice president of the United States from 1813 until his death under President James Madison. He signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation but refused to sign the Constitution because it lacked a Bill of Rights. The political practice of gerrymandering is named after him.
