William H. Webster

William H. Webster (1924–2025) was an American attorney and jurist who served as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1978 to 1987 and as Director of Central Intelligence from 1987 to 1991, the only person to have held both positions. Earlier he was a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and he later chaired the Homeland Security Advisory Council (2005–2020).
