Zhao Ziyang

Zhao Ziyang

October 17, 1919 – January 17, 2005

Zhao Ziyang (1919–2005) was a Chinese politician who served as premier of China from 1980 to 1987 and as general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party from 1987 to 1989. He oversaw political reforms from 1986 but lost power after supporting the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
