Zhu Rongji

Zhu Rongji

Zhu Rongji (1928–2026) was a Chinese politician who served as premier of China from 1998 to 2003 under CCP general secretary Jiang Zemin and as a member of the Politburo Standing Committee from 1992 to 2002. He graduated from Tsinghua University in electrical engineering; after criticizing official economic planning during the 1957 Hundred Flowers Campaign he was purged in the Anti-Rightist Campaign before rising again to the top of the economic leadership.
