1983 United States embassy bombing in Beirut

Suicide bombing of the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, on 18 April 1983, killing 32 Lebanese, 17 Americans, and 14 visitors and passers-by, mostly embassy and CIA staff. It came amid U.S. and Western intervention in the Lebanese Civil War; the Islamic Jihad Organization claimed it, and the US later attributed it to Hezbollah, which denied responsibility.
