Battle of 7 January-9 April 1942 by the US and the Philippine Commonwealth against Japan, the most intense phase of the invasion of the Philippines. After Pearl Harbor, Japan invaded Luzon; MacArthur consolidated his units on the Bataan Peninsula and, despite scarce supplies, the defenders held out for three months. Bataan and Corregidor were the last Allied strongholds in Southeast Asia.
