First Guangzhou Uprising

Contemporaries

The 1911 Xinhai Revolution, which began with the Wuchang Uprising of 10 October 1911 and culminated in the end of the Qing dynasty, China's last imperial dynasty and over two millennia of imperial rule. Provincial revolts led to the establishment of the Republic of China on 1 January 1912 under Sun Yat-sen, followed by the abdication of the Xuantong Emperor on 12 February 1912. Yuan Shikai succeeded Sun as president; his death in 1916 plunged China into decades of warlordism.
