Xinhai Revolution
The 1911 Revolution, also known as the Xinhai Revolution, culminated in the end of China's last imperial dynasty, the Qing dynasty, and led to the establishment of the Republic of China. The revolution began with the Wuchang Uprising on 10 October 1911, and revolts then broke out across the country. On 1 January 1912, the Republic of China was declared with Sun Yat-sen as its first president. Sun resigned in favor of Yuan Shikai, who secured the abdication of the six-year-old Xuantong Emperor on 12 February 1912. Yuan's death in 1916 led to decades of political division and warlordism.
