Nian Rebellion

Insurrection against the Qing dynasty in northern China, 1851-1868, contemporaneous with the southern Taiping Rebellion. It began as bandit and secret-society activity and grew into a sustained revolt; suppressed, but its population and economic losses hastened the Qing dynasty's eventual collapse.
