Sino-Indian War

Armed conflict between China and India, October–November 1962, over the disputed Aksai Chin and North-East Frontier Agency. China launched simultaneous offensives on 20 October, overrunning Indian lines, then unilaterally declared a ceasefire on 20 November and withdrew to pre-war positions. It was a major military and political setback for India, prompting it to modernize its armed forces.
