Six-Day War

June 5–10, 1967

On 5 June 1967 Israel launched a surprise air attack that destroyed nearly all of Egypt's air force, opening a six-day war against Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. Israeli ground offensives captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Gaza Strip and Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, and the Golan Heights from Syria; Arab fatalities exceeded 15,000 against fewer than 1,000 Israeli deaths.
