Army · France
The French Army (Armee de terre, 'Land Army') is the land service branch of the French Armed Forces. It is commanded by the Chief of Staff of the French Army, who is subordinate to the Chief of the Defence Staff, who in turn is responsible to the President of France. Following the French Revolution it has generally been composed of a mixed force of conscripts and professional volunteers, and it is now an all-volunteer professional force since the French Parliament suspended conscription.
