Charles Curtis

January 25, 1860 – February 8, 1936

Charles Curtis (1860–1936) was the 31st vice president of the United States from 1929 to 1933 under President Herbert Hoover, and Senate Majority Leader from 1924 to 1929. An enrolled citizen of the Kaw Nation born in the Kansas Territory, he was the first Native American to serve in the U.S. Congress and the first and only Native American to serve as vice president. He also served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
