Elihu Root

Elihu Root (1845–1937) was an American lawyer, Republican politician, and statesman who served as the 41st U.S. secretary of war and the 38th U.S. secretary of state under Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. He also served as a U.S. senator from New York and received the 1912 Nobel Peace Prize, and pioneered the American practice of international law.
