William Howard Taft
September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930
William Howard Taft (1857–1930) was the 27th president of the United States (1909–1913) and the tenth chief justice of the United States (1921–1930), the only person to have held both offices. Earlier he served as civilian governor of the Philippines (1901–1903) and as Secretary of War (1904–1908) under Theodore Roosevelt, whose endorsement helped him win the presidency.
