Millard Fillmore

Millard Fillmore (1800-1874) was the 13th president of the United States, serving from 1850 to 1853. He was the last president to be a member of the Whig Party while in office and the last to be neither a Democrat nor a Republican. Elected vice president in 1848, he succeeded to the presidency upon the death of Zachary Taylor in 1850 and was instrumental in passing the Compromise of 1850, which temporarily eased the dispute over the expansion of slavery.
