William Henry Harrison (1773–1841) was the ninth president of the United States, serving from March to April 1841. He died 31 days into his term, making him the shortest-serving president and the first to die in office; Vice President John Tyler then succeeded him, settling the constitutional question of succession. A former general in the War of 1812 (noted for the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811), he was the last president born before the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
