William Howe, 5th Viscount Howe (1729–1814) was a British Army officer who served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in America during the American War of Independence. He had earlier distinguished himself in the Seven Years' War, leading the 1759 capture of the cliffs at Anse-au-Foulon that allowed James Wolfe to land his army for the Battle of the Plains of Abraham at Quebec.
