American Revolutionary War
The American Revolutionary War (April 19, 1775 – September 3, 1783) was the armed conflict in which American Patriot forces organized as the Continental Army, commanded by George Washington, defeated the British Army. The war was fought in North America, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Ocean, and its decisive moment came with Washington's victory at the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. In 1783, the Treaty of Paris acknowledged the independence of the Thirteen Colonies, establishing the United States as an independent and sovereign nation.
