Egypt
State · Capital: Cairo
Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and the southwest corner of Asia via the Sinai Peninsula, with a population of over 107 million, the most populous in the Arab world; its capital is Cairo. It has one of the longest histories of any country, tracing its heritage along the Nile Delta back to the 6th-4th millennia BCE, with Ancient Egypt seeing some of the earliest developments of writing, agriculture, urbanization, organized religion, and central government. The country gained independence in 1922 as a monarchy and declared itself a republic after the 1952 revolution. In 1978 Egypt signed the Camp David Accords with Israel, leading to Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982.
