Signed at 5:00 a.m. on 11 November 1918 by Allied Supreme Commander Marshal Ferdinand Foch in a railroad car in the Compiègne Forest, taking effect at 11:00 a.m. Paris Time, ending World War I fighting between the Entente and Germany. Germany had asked Woodrow Wilson to negotiate on his Fourteen Points; the armistice marked an Entente victory.
