Army of the Tennessee
Army · United States · February 2, 1862 – August 1, 1865
Union army in the Western Theater, led in turn by Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, James McPherson and Oliver Howard. Called the Army of the District of West Tennessee until October 1862, it took Forts Henry and Donelson, fought at Shiloh, took Vicksburg, fought at Chattanooga and Atlanta, and marched through Georgia and the Carolinas.
