Chiang Ching-kuo

April 27, 1910 – January 13, 1988

Chiang Ching-kuo (1910–1988) was president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 1978 until his death, and chairman of the Kuomintang from 1975 to 1988. The eldest and only biological son of Chiang Kai-shek, he was the de facto leader of Taiwan from 1972. His presidency brought the end of martial law in Taiwan and the beginning of political liberalization.
