Second Taiwan Strait Crisis
 

1958 conflict between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China, also called the 1958 Taiwan Strait Crisis. The PRC shelled the ROC-held islands of Kinmen and Matsu in an attempt to take them and to probe the extent of American commitment to defend Taiwan. The conflict also involved air, naval, and amphibious operations.
