Cyrus Vance

Cyrus Vance (1917–2002) was an American lawyer and diplomat who served as the 57th U.S. secretary of state from 1977 to 1980 under President Jimmy Carter. He resigned in protest over Operation Eagle Claw, the secret mission to rescue American hostages in Iran. He had earlier served as secretary of the Army and deputy secretary of defense.
