David Ben-Gurion

David Ben-Gurion (1886–1973) was the primary national founder of Israel and its first prime minister, serving from 1948 to 1954 and again from 1955 to 1963. As head of the Jewish Agency from 1935, he led the movement for an independent Jewish state in Mandatory Palestine. Born in Congress Poland, he immigrated to Ottoman Palestine in 1906.
