Biography

Donald Trump was born in New York City in 1946 and took over his father's real-estate business, building hotels, casinos and golf courses under the Trump name. He became a national celebrity as host of the television show The Apprentice.

With no prior office, he won the 2016 presidential election as the Republican candidate, defeating Hillary Clinton. His first term (2017-2021) brought tax cuts, three Supreme Court appointments, tariffs on China and other trade partners, and a hard line on immigration. He was impeached twice by the House and acquitted both times by the Senate; the second impeachment followed the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by his supporters after he refused to accept his defeat by Joe Biden.

He won the 2024 election against Kamala Harris and returned to office in January 2025, the second president after Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive terms.
