The war between the Russian and Ottoman empires in eastern Anatolia and the Caucasus: Enver Pasha's winter offensive failed at Sarikamish, the Russians took Erzurum, Trabzon and Erzincan in 1916, and after the revolution the Ottomans regained the lost provinces and Kars and Batum in 1918.
