Central Plains War

Series of military campaigns in 1929 and 1930, the largest conflict of China's Warlord Era, pitting Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government in Nanjing against a coalition of former allies Yan Xishan, Feng Yuxiang, Li Zongren and Zhang Fakui. The war was fought across Henan, Shandong, Anhui and other central Chinese provinces, with 300,000 Nanjing soldiers facing 700,000 coalition troops. The coalition formed after a 1929 demilitarization conference and openly challenged the legitimacy of Chiang's government.
