George W. Bush
George W. Bush (born 1946) is an American former politician and businessman who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 46th governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. He is the eldest son of George H. W. Bush, the 41st president.
Biography
George W. Bush, the son of President George H. W. Bush, was a Texas oil businessman and part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team before he served as Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000.
He won the 2000 presidential election after a disputed recount in Florida and served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009. After the September 11 attacks he launched the 'war on terror', invading Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, and created the Department of Homeland Security.
At home he cut taxes, passed the No Child Left Behind education law and added prescription drugs to Medicare. His second term saw a long insurgency in Iraq, the government's poor response to Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 financial crisis.
